Gada System Inscribed in UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity List
Nov 30/2016 The Indigenous Democratic Socio-political System of the Oromo, Gada, inscribed in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity List.
Geda system is an indigenous socio-political democratic system of the Oromo people that regulated political stability, economic development, social activity, cultural obligation, moral responsibility and the philosophy religious order of the society.
Gada system is one of the intangible cultural heritages nominated from 37 countries for the list. It is a traditional system of governance of the Oromo people in Ethiopia developed from knowledge gained over generation.
The system was registered at the 11th eleventh session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage underway here in Addis Ababa.
The Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage has 24 members which decide on inscribing nominees for the list
